Alright. I did a thing.

Today is Day 1 of my 30-day red light therapy challenge, and before we go any further, let me clear something up:

  • This is not a sponsored post.

  • This is not me claiming miracle results.

  • This is me being curious, a little skeptical, and very ready to commit to something small that might actually help me feel better.

Also, yes — I absolutely challenged my husband to do this with me. Because if I have to glow red every night, so does he 😌

Why I Decided to Start My 30-day Red Light Therapy

Life has been loud lately.

Long days. Stress. Screens. Bills that don’t care how good your skincare routine is. By the end of the day, I realized I was spending my nights either scrolling, half-watching TV, or crashing without really winding down.

I wanted a simple nightly ritual — something that:

  • Didn’t require a spa appointment

  • Didn’t take hours

  • Didn’t involve needles, chemicals, or downtime

  • Could realistically fit into real life

That’s when I kept hearing about red light therapy.

Not just from influencers — from regular people talking about skin, recovery, sleep, and overall wellness. So instead of overthinking it, I decided to commit to 30 days and document the experience honestly, starting from Day 1.

What Red Light Therapy Actually Is (Plain English Version)

Let’s break this down, because the name sounds way more complicated than it needs to be.

Red light therapy uses low-level red and near-infrared light that penetrates the skin at different depths. Unlike UV light (the kind that damages skin), red light is non-invasive and non-burning.

Here’s what it’s commonly used for:

  • Supporting skin health and appearance

  • Encouraging collagen production

  • Helping with muscle recovery and inflammation

  • Promoting relaxation and sleep readiness

The idea is that this specific wavelength of light helps energize your cells, especially the mitochondria (basically your cells’ power plants). When your cells function better, everything downstream can benefit.

That’s the science side — without getting too nerdy.

The Mask I’m Using: FOLOKE

For this challenge, I’m using a FOLOKE red light therapy mask.

Why this one?

  • It’s easy to use at home

  • It fits comfortably

  • It’s designed specifically for facial red light therapy

  • No cords dangling everywhere

  • No complicated setup

Put it on, press the button, sit for about 20 minutes, and you’re done.

Simple enough that I’ll actually stick with it — which matters more than anything.

Day 1: First Impressions (Full Honesty)

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room.

  • Yes — you look absolutely ridiculous the first time you put it on.

  • Yes — I laughed.

  • Yes — my husband laughed harder.

I fully accepted that I looked like I was auditioning for a low-budget sci-fi movie. ;)

But once the novelty wore off, something interesting happened.

I slowed down.

I wasn’t multitasking. I wasn’t running around. I wasn’t scrolling. I was just sitting there, mask on, feet up, letting the day end.

And honestly? That alone felt like a win.

How I’m Approaching My Red Light Therapy Challenge

I’m keeping this very realistic.

The plan:

  • About 20 minutes each night

  • FOLOKE mask on

  • Couch, bed, or recliner

  • No pressure to “feel” anything immediately

  • No expectations of overnight results

I’m not changing everything else in my life to make this work. I want to see what consistency alone can do.

Because that’s how real change happens.

What I’m Hoping For (Not Promising)

I want to be very clear here.

I’m not starting this expecting:

  • Perfect skin overnight

  • A miracle fix

  • Instant results

What I am hoping for:

  • A calmer nighttime routine

  • Better wind-down before sleep

  • Gradual skin improvements over time

  • A habit I actually enjoy

If those things happen slowly, that’s more than enough for me.

Why I’m Sharing This Publicly

Accountability works.

When I say I’m doing something out loud, I show up differently. Plus, I know a lot of people are curious about red light therapy but don’t want exaggerated claims or influencer nonsense.

So this is me, starting at Day 1, keeping it real, and letting the process speak for itself.

No filters. No hype. Just real life.

What’s Next

This is just the beginning.

I’ll be sharing updates as I go:

  • How it feels after the first week

  • What I notice (or don’t notice)

  • How easy it is to stay consistent

  • And whether this becomes a permanent part of my routine

For now?

Day 1 is done.

Mask off.

Challenge officially started. 🔴✨

Stay tuned — we’ll see where the next 29 days take me.
